We are also very aware that children need items at their level and not forced to sit or play/learn at furniture that is basically built for older children/adults. At Clifford Pre-School we have tables and chairs that are designed to be used by children aged 2 - 5. We also have toilets that are specially designed and made for small bottoms to fit on perfectly and we always make sure that the children are aware of the need for excellent hygiene following trips to and from the toilets. This is also the same for children that are still in nappies as we have a private changing area and bins especially for dirty nappies that are disposed of correctly!

Of course, as it should always be, the safety of the children (and staff and visitors to our setting) is of paramount importance to us. All materials of any nature that could be detrimental to the children is always placed at a level or in locked cupboards that children are unable to reach. Our Health & Safety Officer and Pre-School Manager always carry out regular safety checks of the environment and all these results are always presented to the chairperson to be signed off. Any actions identified by these checks or by request of the Chairperson are always implemented immediately.

Other safety aspects in place are full double locks and door handles on all external doors at heights where the children are unable to reach. All the windows are fully locked with child proof locks as well. Access to our kitchen area is also controlled by a gate with a lock that the children cannot reach. A password system (set by the staff and changed regularly) is in use if a relative of your child comes to pick them up instead of a recognised parent.
